List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. "Sheep," Pink Floyd, Animals -- This song has been in my head since last September, when I heard Roger Waters perform it on his Dark Side of the Moon tour. I have now heard the entire album live and in person through several different tours from Roger. Plus, I've been teaching myself how to play the outtro solo on guitar. Up until a few months ago, I didn't know the chord progressions.
"My Head's in Mississippi," ZZ Top, Recycler -- Great Texas blues-based rock boogie around. Hell, the entire album is one of their best.
"Cross-Eyed Mary," Jethro Tull, Aqualung -- Since I recently found a way to emulate an effects rack/stomp boxes/amps and speaker cabinets all through my PC, I've been toying with some of Tull's works from the early 70s, when Martin Barre just took the heavy guitar sound and ran with it. All of the electric guitar on this album is just incredible, especially when you consider that the beautiful solo in "Aqualung" was done in one take. And this was when Martin saw that Jimmy Page walked into the mixing booth as he was playing, and there was the decision to stop and wave or just keep playing... he kept playing. However, I put this song on the list because of the intense fingerwork on the chorus verses that I need to do to keep up with it, and it's done fast.
"Have a Cigar," Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here -- Dedicated again to the emulation on the PC I mentioned above. Now that I have the proper effects, I can get the right sound, and with the online tablature and play-along lessons, I'll finally get to serious work on this song. It's a great song to hear live as well.
"Fuzzbox Voodoo," ZZ Top, Antenna -- Another classic Texas blues-based rock boogie... complete with double entendre. What more would you expect from a band with songs like "Tube Snake Boogie," "Pearl Necklace," and "Burger Man" in their repertoire?
"One of These Days," Pink Floyd, originally from Meddle, but I'm thinking more on the live version on the "High Hopes" import single CD -- Driving bass, great slide guitar with a good amount of delay, chorus and overdrive... and if you watch the videos for it, you'll see the piggies! (And the brief snippet in the quite middle section that sounds very much like the Doctor Who theme...)
"Just Like Heaven," The Cure -- I'm trying to get more into the Cure, as Colleen absolutely loves the music... This song and "Lovesong" are prominent in my head.
