Okay... I just saw an advert for a new show on Fox called A Simple Life, where two selfish models have to deal with living on a farm in Arkansas.
Combine this with the other reality shows on TV, including Survivor, The Race, Fear Factor, Joe Millionaire, Average Joe and any others that I've missed. I know that Survivor is the grand-daddy of them all, and if it was just that one on TV, I could deal. However, it's all these others that are on that really get my goat. (Or in the case of my uncle, his two wild goats... yes, he's got two wild goats on his property. But I digress...)
What really gets me about these shows where landing some bimbo or a bunch of bimbos (or is it bimbi?) trying to land a man or a bunch of idiots eating stuff that would gag a maggot just for some cash is what people consider good TV. I think it shows where our values in accordance with entertainment have fallen. Now I'm not saying that everyone has to watch what I watch, or avoid these shows. If you watch them and enjoy them, the by all means, watch them. However, my real complaint is with the networks. They come up with these shows, and most of them have the same base concept -- let's get two people together through a series of tests and voting. God's teeth, if I see one more of these "reality" shows with a bunch of bimbos/bimbi and/or mimbos/mimbi, I'll put a hollowpoint through the cable box. These shows aren't reality. If I want to see reality, I'll watch the news... either the local stuff or the broadcast from the BBC... or I'll put on TLC or Discovery.
I do admit to watching two reality series though, and I do mean on a regular basis. USA Network had Combat Missions and Fox had Murder in Small Town X. Combat Missions was cool, at least for me, because I'm always into that sort of stuff. I learned a few things about tactics from that show. Murder had one thing going for it: a storyline revolving around a mystery. It kept you guessing. It was like a good role-playing campaign.
Why can't the networks do these sorts of things again?
I'll tell you... maybe Murder was a bit too cerebral for the type of viewer who would rather watch network-class porn or someone eating pickled worms.
Maybe I'm just a bit more cynical in my older age... then again, I'm one who enjoys the original Saturday Night Live to the drek that's on that show now.

Now, if I had actually sat down and spent more time writing this, I'm sure I could have channeled some of the Essence of Miller and thrown in some really good similes and esoteric references. However, I'll just end it with the only bit I can channel ---

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong...
