So, Friday afternoon, Mom-in-Law comes up for a visit, and to help watch Marcus while Colleen is off on an overnight (several overnights, actually) business-related trip. We have dinner from TC Lando's in Hudson (great steak-n-cheese subs!), and the night progresses smoothly.
Cut to Saturday:
Colleen and I go get our annual flu shots, no problems.
After we get back, I'm sitting on the couch, holding out Marcus' jacket so he can get dressed. He suddenly jumps up with his fist extended --- and I get popped right in the eye. It felt like a pop and a poke at the same time. My eye is in sorry shape. I can't keep it open, and it's watering like mad. I bow out of breakfast at Riley's, and just had a lie down in a dark room with a towel over my eyes.
So the gang gets home, and Colleen drives me to Urgent Care.
Result? Corneal abrasion. I have a shallow scratch on the cornea.
What to do? Rest the eye, keep it closed as much as possible (wasn't patched shut). No reading, as the movement will aggravate it.
So I send the day in bed, watching TV in a dark room.
Sunday: Colleen heads off before my follow-up. Get a ride from MiL with Marcus in tow. Checked the eye -- injury still there, healing, but slowly. Advised to continue as before, and get a referral to an eye doctor.
Monday: Call in to work, as I can't drive or look at a computer monitor all day.
See eye doctor in mid-morning. Recovery is at 90-95% now, and he actually has the eye patched shut so it can fully heal.
Spend the day at home, did dishes and three loads of laundry.
Today:
Follow-up. Eye is looking better. Get antibiotic drops for eye. Can leave unpatched, able to come back to work. Taking it easy with the eye, giving it plenty of breaks from the screen as neeeded.
Eye is dilated a bit, so I've got that Marilyn Manson thing going on...
Marcus has been very sorry about what happened, and has been giving me lots of hugs, the poor lovable mite.
Will keep updated.
Out here.
