So... here's Friday.
Wednesday night, I made some split pea soup in the slow cooker. Now, this was the second time that I've ever made this soup in there. First time was a fiasco. The peas were still very undercooked. Okay, so I didn't know that taking the lid off adds to your cooking time. I thought that you had to stir the stuff. So, this time, I took a precautionary measure: I boiled the split peas for two minutes, then let them sit in the hot water for an hour. Granted, they were a little softer. However, after five hours of cooking in the cooker (without lifting the lid, mind you), it didn't look like split pea soup. Also, none of the peas softened further while cooking, nor did any break down. They were pretty much al dente, but far from what I would consider to be split pea soup. So when I reheated it last night, I broke out one of our wedding gifts (after a year): the Braun hand mixer (aka "the boat motor"). I blended a good portion of the soup, and it looked better. However, it still had a grainy texture to it, which wasn't normal. I think that next time I make the soup, I'll just do it on the stove and let it cook all day.
So yesterday, the official Red Sox World Series Champion shirts went on sale. I mentioned this in a previous entry, I believe. Well, I got to Dick's a little after 630 this morning for the official caps. They had a limit of five caps per person this morning. Man, was the place mobbed. Whoever wrote that the victory would tear apart the Red Sox Nation was far from wrong. Oh, and I got the third shirt, too. :)
This weekend will feel a bit on the odd side for me. No gaming. Saturday's game is called off because the Icecats game got changed from 730 to like 400, so our GM can't make it. Plus on Sunday,
silvara77 and I will be going to a Halloween party held by one of her friends at school. That's only for a couple of hours, so that's not too bad. Plus, sometime on Saturday, we might go see a movie so we can use a couple of passes that we've had for a while, and they expire on Sunday. Hopefully we can find something to see.
Tonight, we're going out with my parents to celebrate my Dad's birthday, which was actually back on Tuesday. We're going to a restaurant called O'Connor's, which is a really great Irish eatery. We've been there a few times before. Great food. Try the Guinness Pie.
That's all I have for right now.
Carry on.
