The guidelines:
"I would like anyone who is interested to choose a handful of these to answer in their own posts.
If you want to leave a comment saying you've answered these, that'd be cool. I'm happy to hear from strangers with a more than moderate amount of introspective tendencies. If you know me, you can pick one question that you would most like for me to answer and I will do that in a separate post."
1. Tell me about the last really, really bad book you've read. Or just what makes a book bad in general, if you can't think of any specific one.
I've enjoyed nearly every book that I've read for pleasure. I'm leaving the ones I had to read for school out of it, except for a select few.
I think the last one that I put down and didn't want to finish was one of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake books, one of the later ones. They became more porn than anything else. I mean, even Colleen says that the romance novels she's been reading may have some erotica in them, but at least it's well-written erotica.
2. If you had a choice, would you rather have a name that was easy to spell that you shared with lots of other people, or a name that was unique to you that you had to spell all the time?
Something unique. Why be just another sheep following the herd?
3. What makes you cry?
I can't remember the last time I well and truly cried. I've felt the build-up of emotions that would make me want to cry for whatever reason -- Marcus' birth, Colleen in serious danger after the birth, the Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series... But no tears actually fell.
4. Ever lived anywhere drastically different from where you live now? What's most important about where you live (actual house/apartment, what's available in the area, weather, etc)?
No. I've lived in places where there were easy conveniences within a decent radius, with friends surrounded...
Most important? Family, followed by everything else.
5. How do you explain mythology in a less intolerant way than "this is what people used to believe." ?
How can one explain mythology? Every system of belief is based on mythology, since the existence of the deity/deities cannot be actually and scientifically proven.
I'm not being intolerant of mythology, because I have a belief as well, based on what hasn't been proven.
6. In various profiles, you select your religion, then you have an option for how much your religion is part of your life. How do you answer those questions? And, if it applies, of the two choices "laughing about it," or "very serious," which one should a devout Discordian choose?
If it's there, I put pagan, neo-pagan, or Wiccan. If it's not there, I put Other. I've been thinking about this recently, and maybe I should put Universalist.
I'm not up on Discordianism, so I can't rightly answer the second statement.
7. Do you have a dream house/living space? What kinds of rooms would you have?
I've had a house design in my head since high school, when I was taking architecture. Over the years, it's evolved.
The main floor would have the kitchen, dining room, living room, media room, and office. The kitchen would be very modern and open (think Alton's kitchen on Good Eats, same with the dining room. The living room would have cathedral ceilings and a central fire area. The media area would be situated off of the living room, connected to the office.
The second floor would have the bedrooms and a balcony looking over the living area.
Throw in an attached garage, and we're in business.
8. Tell me something that is your favorite that not many people like.
Tough one.
Nothing leaps to mind, really...
9. Would you rather share a bedroom with one person or a bathroom with four people?
Bathroom, as long as everyone respected the bathroom and kept it reasonably neat and shared in the cleaning duties.
10. What inspired your username?
One of the best progressive rock bands in music.
11. What makes good ethnic food?
Taste and appearance. Deep-fried grasshoppers may taste good and be the national snack of some southeastern Asian country, but just by looking at it, I can tell I'm not gonna consider downing a couple.
12. Ever decided in the first five minutes that you could never date someone? Or that you were absolutely sure you wanted to date them and that wasn't going to change?
Yes, on both counts.
13. Describe yourself as if you were a character in a gaming system. (For instance, if you the real person were an EverQuest character, what race and class would you be?) Feel free to translate from this world to that, rather than just saying "level 24 human" etc.
I don't play EQ, so allow me to express this in, perhaps, True20...
Human, Expert 18/Warrior 6 with a buttload of skills
I could try to explain myself in HERO or GURPS, too... but it's better to see the acutal character sheet...
14. Tell me something that you admire in other people that you would never do yourself.
Dedication
Anything that's a cross between being brave and foolhardy.
Committing yourself to a cause or something that's greater than you are, such as the armed forces.
15. Do you wear jewelry?
My left ear is pierced. Haven't worn anything in a long time, but it hasn't closed over.
Other than that, there's the pentacle (worn openly on Sabbats and special days), and my wedding band.
16. Ever written down, or thought of, names you would give your hypothetical children? What else have you thought about naming? Have the names ever overlapped?
Of course. And we agreed on Marcus.
17. Tell me about your ideal wardrobe.
Comfortable, casual.
18. What makes you insatiably curious?
It all depends. A thought has to hit me in a certain way at a certain time, and it has to stick with me for more than a fleeting moment.
19. Would you choose to never travel further than 100 miles from your home for the rest of your life, or to move every 2 years at least 20 miles from where you lived previously?
The first one. I would hate to have to pack everything up every couple of years just for the sake of moving.
20. Do different-colored M&Ms taste different to you? Do all the flavors of Kool-Aid have a distinct taste with your eyes closed?
Not to me. And aren't all the Kool-Aid flavors supposed to be different?
21. What have you always wanted to be able to do, but never learned (or at least not learned yet)?
Pilot an aircraft. I know the basics, but I've never had any formal training.
22. What moods make you prefer different creative outlets? Like drawing over music, and vice versa?
The only creative outlet I've really explored is writing.
23. Do you ever have deliciously vindictive revenge fantasies? Ever tell anyone about them?
Don't we all? And I'm not going to divulge them.
24. Would you take a million dollars on the stipulation that you could never drive or ride in a car again?
These days, a million isn't a lot. I think it would take a hell of a lot more than that, since I'd need to arrange ways to work from home, get deliveries to home, etc.
25. Assuming your nutritional requirements were taken care of in some way, what meal could you eat every day, three times a day, for a year?
Can't answer that. I prefer to have some sort of variety.
26. Just how clean is your bathroom right this very minute as you read it? (No fair cleaning it up or telling me how clean it was last week!)
I admit that it needs a tidy. There are clothes in there that should go in the laundry, as well as bath toys, but at least they're in a bin.
