2004 has been a memorable year for each and every one of us, I'm sure. So let's see how it affected all of us...
What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Went to a foreign country and remembered it. (I was kneehigh to a grasshopper when I came here from Morocco, so needless to say that I don't remember jack about there...)
Country in question: Jamaica
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Um, I am not sure if I really made any. I do plan to have some for this coming year though.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No...
Did anyone close to you die?
Again, no.
What countries did you visit?
Jamaica
What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
A bit more free cash, a healthy kiddo, and a better feeling in the home, once it's cleaned up.
What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
29 August, during the closing ceremonies to the Summer Olympics, when
silvara77 came out of the bathroom with her own torch -- the test reading positive.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming a father, of sorts... landing a permanent job, too
What was your biggest failure?
Not doing things that I said I would do.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Apart from the usual chronic stuff, I had sciatica/sacro-iliitis early on in the year, right before the Jamaica trip.
What was the best thing you bought?
Honestly, I can't say, cos there wasn't anything truly out of the ordinary that I can think of...
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Huh? Not sure about this question... but perhaps
paladyn and every other soldier who's over there, doing their job, and cracked on with it, even if they do gripe and groan.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Want the list? I would have to say the whole civilian military command structure, all the way up to W, for the shoddy way the whole debacle in Iraq has been run since Day 1.
Where did most of your money go?
Bills... food... rent...
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The honeymoon trip, the baby
What song will always remind you of 2004?
Gods, I don't know... I don't usually associate songs with years...
Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
In some respects, happier... in others, probably about the same
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Getting the house in order
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Slacking off
How will you be spending Christmas?
Visiting
silvara77's family in Virginia
Did you fall in love in 2004?
I fell more in love with my wife that day in August
How many one-night stands?
None
What was your favorite TV program?
Well, there's a list... NCIS, CSI, Simpsons, JAG, Stargate SG1, Mythbusters, Good Eats... just check out a previous post entitled "What I Watch"
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No more than usual...
What was the best book you read?
The DaVinci Code was one of them... I've read quite a bit, and I've liked everything I've read...
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Didn't really discover anyone new this year... but as for a group already on my list, it would have to be that the latest CD from Blackmore's Night Ghost of a Rose is truly awesome.
What did you want and get?
A kiddo on the way... and a permanent job
What was your favorite film of this year?
The Incredibles
um... Return of the King
among others...
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
33. My parents,
silvara77 and I went to Firefly's for dinner.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting the house in order
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Um, fashion? Concept? With me, the two are mutually exclusive.
What kept you sane?
silvara77, LJ, RPGs, reading, the web, friends, and other mild forms of insanity
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Fancy? No one.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Well apart from the situation in the sand, how the US could be conned into electing the Nation's Village Idiot back into position.
Who did you miss?
paladyn, epecially during the period where he wrote nothing in his LJ. A lot of us were seriously worried.
Who were the best new people you met?
LJ folks (you know who you are), a few people from work
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004
The universe is neither good nor bad. It doesn't wish anyone success, nor does it wish anyone ill. It just is.
While many opportunities may come along for you, you will know which is the one that will place you where you are supposed to be at this point in time.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year
While I'm not exactly thoughtful on this one, I do have two songs that can sum up any year...
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our troughts strayed constandly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begin
Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The night of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfuried
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Eneumbered forever by desire and ambition
There’s a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we’ve been so many time
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever
-- High Hopes, Pink Floyd, The Division Bell
All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
Beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that’s to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side of the moon really. matter of fact it’s all dark.
-- Eclipse, Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of the Moon
