So the concert has come and gone, and I feel all the better for having gone and seen Roger Waters yet again. Every time I go, the shows just get better and better.
Here's the setlist, with comments.
Set One
1. In the Flesh -- Standard opening for him on the past two tours.
2. Mother
3. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun -- I love this one. It's the oldest song he plays, and it was so good with the motion picture backdrop, with clips of the old original members, including the late Syd Barrett.
4. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V) (abridged) -- Again, another tribute for Syd. When his picture appeared on the backdrop, the crowd cheered.
5. Have a Cigar -- For me, one of the highlights of the show. This version kicked ass and took names. Much better than the versions from the Pros & Cons and Radio KAOS tours.
6. Wish You Were Here -- A classic. The whole audience sang along.
7. Southampton Dock -- Good song from the final cut
8. The Fletcher Memorial Home -- Another good song, and very fitting with today's times.
9. Perfect Sense, Parts 1 and 2 -- Another song that fits with today's goings-on, this one from Amused to Death.
10. Leaving Beirut -- A new piece that was originally released on the web. This is an autobiographical piece about Roger hitchhiking back to England through Lebanon at the age of 17, and he was taken in for the night by a kind family. Of course, he throws in his usual political barbs at W, which were well-received by most of the crowd. The images on the screen were done by comic book artists Bill Sienkiewicz and Neal Adams, both of whom I know of and have seen their works. (I recognised Neal Adam's artwork right off.) Awesome.
11. Sheep -- The best part of the night. My favorite song off of Animals. It rocked the house. Now I have heard all of the album live at some point in time or another.
Set Two (The Dark Side of the Moon)
1. Speak to Me
2. Breathe
3. On the Run
4. Time
5. The Great Gig in the Sky
6. Money
7. Us and Them
8. Any Colour You Like
9. Brain Damage
10. Eclipse
This was all pretty much standard, and an excellent job was done by all.
Encore
1. The Happiest Days of Our Lives
2. Another Brick in the Wall, Part II
3. Vera
4. Bring the Boys Back Home
5. Comfortably Numb
One cool thing about this tour is that Roger's son Harry is playing keyboards and Hammond organ.
All in all, a great time. Getting out of the Tweeter Center wasn't too bad. The show ended at 11pm, and we were getting onto 495 around 1145. Not bad at all.
