Julius isn't doing so well. It's been just over three months since he was diagnosed with the soft-tissue tumor. It's not something that will kill him, just make his life very uncomfortable. Right now, his left hip and leg are very swollen, and he limps around with a (basically) non-functional left leg. He still gets around, but it's not so good these days... we ended up giving him a bath yesterday since he will just sit in the litter box and/or go wherever he plants himself. He still eats, but we can tell he's not doing so hot...
As for his meds, well... we're only going to be doing it one week at a time.
We hate making this decision for him since we can see in his eyes that he's still there, he's still Julius, and he knows that he's loved.
But it's just heartbreaking...

Every night, I pray to Bast to keep him comfortable, and that if/when we send him to her, it's not out of cruelty or malice, but out of love and mercy.

I just hate this so much, and Colleen doesn't need this now, not after her Dad passing away over a month ago...

*sigh*

Bummer... :( I wish there was something that could be done to ease his discomfort and make it easier for him to get around. :( Would removing the leg and affected bone be too challenging and not worth the attempt?

(I did read back to the initial entry, but wanted to ask anyway)

Not really an option that was advised on when he was first diagnosed. It was discussed, but the vet said that it wouldn't do anything, as it's not a bone tumor or anything like that. Tumor excision wasn't an option, either.
Sometimes these tumors can act like a cast around the affected bone areas, and insulate them from the pain.

He will still take the drops that have a pain reliever plus some anti-cancer effects, but it hadn't retarded the growth at all.

He's getting on like 14 years, I think. A good life. He knows he's loved very much.

Ah, ok... I understand better now. I'm so sorry that you guys are facing this with him. A shame the anti-cancer stuff hasn't retarded the tumor growth... :(

He has had a great, long life, and he is loved for sure. Hope he's around a little longer... Give him a scritch from me and send a purr from Civic.
