My wife and I, among others in the Shrewsbury school system, have a few bones to pick with the current superintendent of Shrewsbury schools.
He apparently doesn't like to cancel school when all the other towns surrounding Shrewsbury call it off.
Today is a prime example.
Yes, I know that the snow didn't really start until dawn. Yes, I know that the really bad stuff, namely the sleet, freezing rain and ice, isn't coming along until sometime later this morning to early afternoon... but think of the mess it's going to make come mid-afternoon when all the kids are getting out of school. Traffic's going to be dangerous. School busses, let alone a smaller sedan, do not travel well on icy roads. Every other school district in Worcester county has pretty much binned the day... why can't Shrewsbury? At least announce an early dismissal before school starts, but nooooooooooooo... can't have that now, can we?
Apparently getting an education is worth more than potentially snuffing it in a winter-induced car accident.
Then again, this bozo doesn't live in Shrewsbury, or in a neighboring town; he lives in frikkin' Wellesley, so close to Boston where the weather patterns are usually different than here in the Land of the Seven Hills. My wife considers it a miracle if he even calls for an hour delay for school.
The guy just has no clue.
I'm very tempted to write him an anonymous letter, detailing our concerns and a few suggestions.
If Colleen gets injured or, Goddess forbid, worse in an ice storm because she had to go in when everyone else got to stay home, I'd never forgive that person.
Granted, her check actually goes through the Worcester Diocese, but her school is at the mercy of the super of Shrewsbury schools, since the school uses their busses.
Also, take into consideration that I had to drive into work myself, Worcester to Dudley... and I have to drive back in the thick of it for a 4pm dentist appointment, should it still go on. (It better, I'd like to have this tooth checked out and possibly filled so it doesn't give me agony anymore.)
Enough of the rant...
