Okay, here we go, on various topics...

The Hunt for the Red Hot Job
Okay... I don't expect to hear from VNA until the end of next week.
I had a brief phone interview with the IT department at Brandeis University on Monday afternoon. Four short questions, then I was thrown for a loop when I was asked what my favorite computer game was. I told him that I was currently playing Dungeon Siege, and he went on about Halo 2. That was rather surprising. End of next week, I'll know if I'm selected for a more in-depth interview.
Apart from the daily job search on Monster, Dice, and Career Builder, nothing more to report.

Fatherhood
Ultrasound on 30 November. Nothing new to really report on my end of it.
Oh, if anyone ever sees one of the commercials for Fallon, and you see a Dr Fae Nason talking about Blue Cross patients being treated at Fallon, well... she's our OB. She's really nice in person. Very gentle and soft demeanor.

Miscellaneous
One of my college buddies, [livejournal.com profile] paladyn, is coming home, finally. He's officially out of the Army, at least on separation leave. He's done more than his fair time in Iraq with the 1st Armor. The Zoo Crew and I were thrilled beyond description when he finally let us know that he was safe and heading out of the sand back to Germany, and now it's going to be a great year's end when he's finally back here in the Land of the Big PX. Even if you don't know him, drop him a line to welcome him home.
My parents are still in Indiana checking on my grandfather. From what I've heard, he's recuperating well from his bypass surgery, but he's going to be on dialysis from here on out. I think that would be the least of his worries, you know?
They're flying back home on Thursday. Yes, on Turkey Day. I'll be picking them up at the Logan shuttle stop in Framingham, and we're going to have a surprise for them when they get home.
In the meantime, I'm still making two trips a day to their house to check on it, collect the papers and mail, and feed the kitties.
Tonight's TV viewing: NCIS and House. We quite like House, even if Hugh Laurie isn't allowed to use his native British accent. You can get past it after a while. The character is rather intriguing. In one sense, I'd love to have him as my doctor; in another sense, I'm glad he's not.

A few other observations...
Has anyone seen The Biggest Loser, or whatever that show is called? To me, this just puts another nail in the coffin of network TV, with the hammer being their reliance on these stupid competitive reality shows. I'm so sick of them. This one in particular features a group of rather overweight people and their attempts and pursuits to shed the pounds. While I applaud their efforts to do so, the show itself just sensationalizes everything about them, and perhaps even ridicules them, especially if they're dropped from whatever team they're on for not losing enough, or however it goes, since I've never watched it, nor will I do so. It seems like the bulk of TV-watching America is glued to their sets to watch the latest exploits of that ho-bag Paris Hilton and her equally skanky counterpart, whatever-her-name-is. We're losing brain cells while we watch people trying to get their fifteen minutes by performing injury or deaf-defying stunts and eating things I wouldn't even feed my worst enemy on Fear Factor. Is it any wonder why I'll sit and watch British comedies over and over? They're just much better in quality, in my opinion.
On another note, I'd like to say something about the game of fisticuffs that broke out in the Pacers-Pistons game this past weekend. I would like to say that I agree with what a lot of people are saying about today's basketball players: they're overpaid, underachieving, and over-coddled. Also, a lot of the younger players were most likely playing street basketball a few years ago, where fights and violence were part of the mainstream, so that's what they resort to if and when they're fouled. Hey, if they wanna go on each other out on the courts, fine, let them. But when they go after the fans in the stands -- and I'm not talking about the ones that are courtside, I mean several rows in like that one guy -- that's where the line should be drawn. Perhaps we should go back to the old days where some of the games were played in a cage. Now I'd like to say that I'm not on the side of the fans, either. Some of them are just as equal in the blame department. It's one thing to yell at the players -- they can just shrug it off. It's another thing to throw your drinks, food, garbage, even chairs at them. And during a news story on this last night, they showed a parent holding his two kids close to him during all this. What is this incident supposed to teach these kids about sportsmanship? These kids look up to these guys, Gods know why. This is one of the reasons why I don't like professional basketball, and why I follow football and baseball. Sure, in baseball, you'll get a bench-clearing shoving match once in a while, and you have players with large egos, but these games have shown that they're much more civilized as of late than basketball.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled LJ perusal.
Carry on.
