Well, last night I had to bite the bullet.

I installed a program for Colleen, which went without a hitch. But for some reason, when I went onto the 'net, Windows started to slag down and such, so I decided to reboot. Windows tried to do a setup completion, but it wasn't taking. It just wouldn't boot.
So, after finding a Windows 98 CD which was not bootable, I bit the bullet and bought the Windows XP Home Upgrade Edition, and installed it last night. As of 10.30pm last night, I have a good deal of my apps running (I hope). Now I just need to get it back on the 'net.

Hey, I'm still living the adventure... not entirely sure if all the apps are currently in a running state (might need to do a little more configuring or even just a quick re-install of apps), get it back online, and all that rot.
Windows is all right, I've grown to like XP.

I too like XP over the prior versions of Windows.

However, I still don't particularly like Windows.

I realise that my other alternative would have been to bin the whole thing and go with Linux, but that would require too much work, having to relearn all the Unix stuff I had forgotten, and a lot of hassle from Colleen about not having Windows on the computer for her to do work.

I expect that I should have everything back to quasi-normal by week's end... end of the holiday weekend at latest.
